The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has imposed a Rs 10,000 fine on a residential apartment in Banjara Hills for alleged water wastage after potable water was found flowing onto the road during overhead tank cleaning.
Officials inspected Sri Sai Rams Westend Apartment in Anand Nagar Colony following a complaint, where water was observed being discharged onto the road from CAN number 619347736.
During the inspection, officials found that the water release occurred while cleaning overhead tanks, despite no scheduled water supply at that time. The board stated that allowing drinking water to flow onto roads amounts to violation of regulations and wastage of a scarce resource.
Following the inquiry, a penalty of Rs 10,000 was imposed on the consumer. Officials warned that repeated violations could lead to suspension of water supply services.
The Water Board urged consumers to use water responsibly and avoid wastage during maintenance activities such as tank cleaning. It added that complaints related to water misuse or wastage will be verified and acted upon promptly.
